2ND TERM PROJECT: “RECYCLE YOUR INVENTION”
Due Thursday, October 30

Project Overview
You will make, construct and invent something using recyclable materials. The majority of your invention must consist of recyclable goods. However, materials such as glue, string, tape, and other materials that are used to hold things together may be used. Some possible recyclable goods could include: paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, etc. Examples of these might be 2 liter bottles, paper towel holders, newspapers, etc. Your creativity and artistic imagination are strongly encouraged! Possible ideas are unique musical instruments, bird feeders, wind chimes, board games, kid toys, etc.

Procedures:
1. You will need to brainstorm what recyclable goods you have access to at or around your home.

2. You will need to brainstorm a few different ideas/inventions that uses at least 3 recyclable goods and that you think will be within reason.
**Warning: All school rules apply, so make sure that it is appropriate for school.

3. Decide which project you would like to construct. You will then draw a blueprint of your invention with labels and a brief description of how it will be constructed and how it will work. Be sure to give your invention a name! (This portion will be completed and turned in on the blueprint handout, so write neatly and make sure your drawing and description are clear).
**We will spend some time in class brainstorming and drafting our ideas with classmates.

4. Begin constructing your project at home throughout the week and over the weekend. All construction should take place at home, and the final invention will be brought in to class on the assigned day.

5. The rubric on the back will be used to grade your invention.

6. Students will vote on the best inventions presented in class. The categories include Most Creative, Best Use of Recyclable Goods, Best Design.

GET STARTED AND HAVE FUN RECYCLING YOUR GOODS INTO A GREAT INVENTION!!!

1st Term Project: “Whatta-Buncha-Ologies?”

WHAT IS SCIENCE? The Branches of Science
DUE: Tuesday, September 9

At the completion of this project, you should be able to spell and define these science words. Use a dictionary or the handout “Whatta-Buncha-Ologies” to find the definition of these words.

SCIENCE
botany–physics–ecology–biology–chemistry
archeology–zoology–astronomy–microbiology

As a part of this project, you will also construct a poster using small matchbooks (we will learn to make these in class). These matchbooks should include the following information:
–the name of the branch of science on the bottom flap
–a drawing that represents the field of study on the top cover
–a definition of the branch of science on the inside

You must use each of the branches of science listed on the word list above and add six more to have a total of 15 represented on your poster. You can use the handout on -ologies, encyclopedias, or some other resource to complete this project.

Use your creativity to find a title and a design for your poster. Please be neat and show your individuality. Use print only! Write in black pen and use colored pencils or crayons for your illustrations. Review the grading rubric for this project on the back of this paper.

**If you would like to develop an electronic version of this project using computer technology, please tell Mrs. Wallace of your plan to receive approval.**
